You should seriously consider the Panasonic V700M.  It has great zoom, is compact, does well in low light, great image stabilization, shoots crisp HD video with wide angle, and its inexpensive; all the things you could ask for in the Northwest. I have spent a while on a tight budget trying to get some good video of the activities you mentioned.  In fact, I have wrote a webpage dedicated to the Best Video Cameras for hunting where I break them down by price range ( http://www.bestforhunting.com/best-video-camera-for-hunting/ ). Check out the site if you want to see some videos I filmed of some beautiful animals with several of the cameras I mention, including the Panasonic V700M.  I have found that with all the Northwest has to offer, you will need a camera that can do it all.  If you go with the Panasonic V700M , then you will have some $ left over for a good tripod and an SD card.

Hey Paul, I bet that Wes or Ricky have a few cameras you can try out.  You might have to wash the candy off of them first!   :chuckle:

That is funny.  Trying to jump from a $800 total budget, to a Red.
If you get a Red, get ahold of me, and I would be honored to have you film my hunts.

I think some of "Searching For West" was filmed with Red Cameras.
That was a killer video.

Getting some more good video, but I'll need that fluid head as my film is still a but edgy on my tri pod.

Red cameras are out if the question lol

Check out the manfrotto 701 hdv fluid head for the smaller cameras.  We use them on all of our small camera setups.
