Crawfish Lake - No more?
« on: July 12, 2012, 07:53:03 AM »
I’m trying to find a good place to drop a crayfish trap from shore and while reading our forums I saw Crawfish Lake come up several times (go figure).

When I searched for Crawfish Lake, one result was Wikipedia. In the description, it said:

“The lake once contained many crawfish but the state has recently poisoned it to contain the native water reed and thus kill the crawfish.”!   :yike:

Is this true?  I haven’t called the WDFW yet.

Lakes aren't the only place to get crawdads.  Rivers and streams have them too.  Drop a trap into a pool in a stream, and you may be surprised.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Thanks for the reply, HereDoggyDoggy.

Part of my quest is finding that stream. :chuckle:

CRAP!!! Is this the one in NE WA in the Okanagan?  Talk about bad timing as I am planning on visiting my buddy who is building a cabin up that way and was planning on fishing / dropping my pots for the second time in that very lake.   :yike:

What is with the WDFW poisoning everything up that way?   :bdid:

Last year they poisoned Fish Lake to kill all the bass.  Surely there has to be a better way to manage things than dropping poison in all the lakes.

The WDFW, in their infinite wisdom, just know that warm-water lakes are better habitat for trout!  :bdid:

My buddy always took a couple of traps up to Douglas Creek, out of Palisades, when we went up there to fly fish.  A couple hours later he had half a 5 gallon pail full of the bugs.

:yeah: And it's just an awesome area to visit regardless. Some really cool land features.

If you're in the area of Douglas Cr, take Palisades back to Ephrata and hit up Rocky Ford. Another good producer.

Is this the Fish Lake in Chelan county? I hope not!

According to my 1978 Nortwest Fishing Guide, there are 8 "Fish Lakes" in Washington State.   :dunno:

No... this "Fish Lake" is located about 10 miles south of Tonasket.  Different lake.
