Is it rusted inside or just the outside of the barrel?  The outside you could cerakote if the pitting isn't to bad... If the bore is rusted pretty bad might want to bore-scope to check the bore for imperfections/pitting or just re-barrel it.  Just kind of depends on how rusted the whole thing is and how much you want to spend though...

I however might know a guy with a Rem 700 8mm Mag he is looking to get rid of though...

Have it bead or aluminum oxide blasted, then you can coat it Yourself or have it done. KG Gun Kote is fairly durable if you don't flat out right abuse the rifle. Air dry or bake Duracoat is tits, it can all be done yourself.
As for the bore give it a good scrubbing with JB Bore paste. When it comes to factory barrels it is amazing howmwell some can shoot in not so great of a condition on the bore. Scub it and shoot it and see how it runs. Unless the bore is completely rusted/destroyed I'm sure it will hold MOA of deer. The 8mm Magnum is a great cartridge, I had one in a  Remington 700 but swapped it out for a ultra magnum upon their arrival.

Seeing that the last Rem700 rifle in 8mm Magnum was produced/ manufactured in 1998, that being the "Classic" model of which they did one particular chambering per year with that model, the Classic line has been discontinued. I imagine one would be hard pressed to find a factory barrel to replace it, which leaves the only option of having a new barrel spun up for it. In that case one would have to be very fond of the cartridge due to the fact there are many modern non belted chamberings now that match or flat out perform the 8mm Magnum. Depending on the barrel and smith your looking at 400.00-600.00 to rebarrel it. I imagine if one looked hard enough they could find another complete rifle for close to that in used condition.

The other choice would be to just throw another factory barrel on it, in a magnum chambering, I have a new unfired 26" matte, sporter weight Rem700 barrel chambered in .300 Ultra magnum if that's the direction you want to go in. Just another option, I would cut you a smoking deal. :o

Here is one place I would to,    http://www.ershawbarrels.com/e-r-shaw-custom-barrels.php

I have used several of their barrels and they are excellent.
Short chambered, threaded, contoured, your choice of caliber for $175 for a chrome molly.  For Stainless it is $240.  You can have them install it too for $115 + shipping to and from.  Your probably looking at $340, SS is more.  Then you still need to reblue it.  You do the blueing yourself about $25 for the materials, send it out that's about $100 to $120.
