I always have a hard time figuring out exactly what some of the things I see while hiking were actually used for

We can all read the post. I'm sure the same message could have been delivered a bit more diplomatically guys. Can't say it wouldn't hit a nerve if it was me on the receiving end.

Would like to salvage some of that very seasoned lumber!

Bad idea, leave it for others to enjoy.

It might be privately owned, but still a bad idea to steal wood unless you got permission.

Seems like Skyhigh is the one who needs leasons in diplomacy

Hey "Campmeat" and "Knocker of Rocks" both of you can go pound sand with your hollier than thou accusing attitude! I know what the hell I am doing if and when I gather "relics" from the past.

A little different perspective:

Dick

Awesome!
Only 2 defining forces sacrificed themselves for you:
The American Soldier and Jesus Christ. One died for your freedom, the other for your soul.

My rock,
He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.

Makes you wonder what they were used for and what happened to the men who used them

It's an OLD logging Spur trestle. It's located at Whatcom Falls Park in Bellingham.

That looks like a 3HP McCormick Deering that's seen better days... does that still have a flat belt pulley on the other side?

You nailed it...It went to a buddy that rebuilds them, I think it was just used as a parts..

You can pound sand harder than me !!!!!!  I wasn't being "hollier than thou" you dipstick !!!!!!!!!  :liar:

If you were not being a "Hollier than thou" Jackwagon than I sincerely apologize..Not
Good christ, I stated that, that would be some good lumber to salvage. For the record I salvage many many sites that have seasoned lumber and other rusty items..Wont go into my details or  credentials but my ducks are in a row. Just gotta love internet doorknobs and the old brass ones from cabins!

I certainly hope you know what you are doing, because if you are taking artifacts from any type of public land, or private land without permission, your actions would be illegal, immoral, unethical and self-absorbed.  In other words, you would be stealing.

JackWagon, oops I mean Knocker of Rocks, thanks for your advise on "artifacts" and how I would be a scum sucking troll if I didnt have my ducky's in a row..Did you ever consider I may be some land tycoon? Dont suck up now because there is now wayin hell you would get access to any of it!

Another picture of an artifact...I can already hear the "grave robber" comments coming from you two . :hello:

This is funny to me...there is legit archaeological finds and keeps, there is a certain amount of legit salvage and treasure hunting there is private land where well hell its private land so its yours....but the reality is promoting going out and "taking" boards, wood, implements, etc that appear very old from public ground is just sort of like saying its ok to steal your neighbors car he left sitting for the last 5 years in the weeds he obviously doesn't want it  :dunno: its still a sort of theft.  Many if not most people do not have a clue about the antiquities trade and how it works hell most here have no idea about the value and ability to buy and sell taxidermy old guns knives swords and other crap amongst the antique and dealers industry and that doesn't even enter the decor and design realm.

Try education with a little less accusation and you will find more people more receptive....not saying it will totally get rid of the a-holios but some people are actually interested and more so when information is shared a bit more gently :dunno: :twocents:x10

I never said that my finds were on public ground. The two above insinuated I was on public ground.
