Hunter Orange question?
« on: August 07, 2012, 09:47:45 AM »
So I know that during any deer or elk modern firearm you must wear hunter orange.

I was just wondering why you don't have to wear any orange during bear season?  Also since bear is any weapon can you still hunt bear with a modern firearm in areas that are open to deer and elk archery, say in september? Or do those areas become off limits while the archery season is open?

Any other info would be great as many seasons overlap and the hunter orange regs seem vague at times.

I know this doesn't fully answer your question but for me...if I am not archery hunting OR muzzy hunting I always wear hunters orange...even when bear hunting. It is a personal choice that I make for my own safety reasons. I even wear it when I'm just grouse hunting.

As for hunting bear with a MF during archery seasons I would think yes you can but only bring the tags along of the animals you are hunting. just my opinion and  :twocents:

Highest numbers of hunters are out during modern deer & elk seasons, so more accident potential.

Good to go for bear during archery seasons, unless in a firearm restricted area where only archery or muzzleloaders are allowed.

I think the idiots that shoot other hunters, will do so, Orange or not. I do NOT believe the excuse of "not recognizing the target". If they cannot tell if it is a human how can they tell if buck or doe? bull or cow? bear or brush picker? I think they should be charged as manslaughter and sent to prison.
that said, I don't think orange protects you, it may draw attention to you. I have come to distrust and avoid all other hunters.

I wear my hunters orange ball-cap when hunting Bear and keep my vest in my bag and wear it if I see another rig at the trail-head or if the weather turns and I wanna be a bit more visible. I agree with Bofire that an idiot who can't tell the difference between a Bear and a Human shouldn't be allowed in the woods. I've often wondered how you'd tell the difference between a Black Bear or a Brown Bear if you're not looking close enough to tell if it's even a bear...I suspect hunting under the influence  is the number one cause of jack-asses shooting people.

I bear hunt an area and have not seen another hunter EVER except my buddy. Hunt areas where the *censored*es arent at. I have an orange flag in my Nimrod pack that i put on my pack if packing out an animal, otherwise i never wear orange. Hunt smart (follow shadows, move slow and dont put yourself in the open) and most people will never see you.

Orange shouldn't even be required for deer, elk, upland bird hunting..........suggested maybe, but not a law. :twocents:
