Youth hunter looking for first deer
« on: August 09, 2012, 10:01:55 PM »
Hi all,
I am 15 and looking for my first deer.  I have tried to get out in the past but it hasn't worked out.  I am relatively new to hunting with both my parents being non-hunters.  As far as deer hunting, I have no experience.  I live in the renton area but am constantly over in grays harbor.  I really just need to get out there for the first time and learn how it is done.  I would also be open to other Big Game opportunities. I can pay for gas and a meal or two along the way as well!

Hang in there  I know that it is hard to get into hunting when you are young, especially when your parents don't hunt. Just hang in there, even if opportunities don't show up this year. What season do you plan to hunt (archery, mod. fire. muzzy)  :dunno: Getting a hunting buddy is a great start, and I wish I could help.

Nope.  Not until next year.

Get your learners permit asap

Another couple of weeks until I get the Permit!

And I plan on hunting modern firearm.

Gray's Harbor County is chock full of deer and elk.  Just have to find them.  I hope someone can take you along.  From reading some of your past posts, it looked like you tried but kind of got screwed being able to hunt last year.  I hope it works out better for you this year.

If you are ever near Arlington I could try to get you a bear, but that is a ways from you. Send me a pm if you ever are and we could possibly hook up

I don't hunt there but, I know there has to be a ton of deer up on Tiger Mountain.  Can any of you guys point this young man in that direction?  Tiger Mnt. and Cougar Mnt. are within spitting distance of Renton.

Yeah.  I actually was planning on hunting doe with Bearpaw up in colville in october, but that got canceled because of some events in the family that made me not be able to get there.  And for the last couple years I was trying to get somewhere over east to hunt deer but none of that worked out either.  Being the only hunter in the family (that lives in washintgon) I've had to try hard to start from scratch and find my own opportunities and learn on my own!  I'm more determined than ever this year though and will be until i actually get out there!

And Kola, I actually may be up near arlington in the next few weeks for soccer.  I don't know If I would be able to go bear hunting with you, but it's definetly a possibility and I'll talk to my parents and try to persuade them!

I know of the areas on the opposite side HWY 18 from Tiger mountain, and have looked at it a lot on maps and been up to the gates.  Its not so much the finding a deer part of hunting that I'm worried about.  its more the part that Im worried if I do shoot something that I'll be overwhelmed and not know what to do, potentially ruining the meat.

If you could get a ride to Dale's in Oct., and Dale was still on board, would you be able to make the trip?
