Buoy 10 Salmon Fishing
« on: August 17, 2012, 05:37:17 AM »
Ok so I dont have internet access at my cabin down here in Long Beach so I havent been able to post updates on how the fishing is on the Columbia but because I got up way to early this morning I decided that I would stop at the local Safeway in Astoria and use their wifi to give you guys an up date on whats been going on down here!

Fishing has been spotty one day there will be a good bite than the next it everyone is scratching their heads trying to figure out where the fish are! But we have managed to at least get a few kings every day with the average being 22lbs. I will work on getting some pictures up of some of these fresh kings but for know I am limited in what I can do! If you are planning a trip down here the fishing should get better and better as the season progresses so good luck out there and catch some fish!

Dad and I took the girls down Wednesday and whacked a few... 9 takedowns, 5 hook-ups, with 4 kings in the boat.  Was pretty spotty action around us, but even a blind hog gets an acorn once in a while...

Those are nice fish.

Would a 13 foot Boston Whaler be a death wish at Area 10 buoy?  Or, are there "relatively" safe places that one could stay and still catch fish?  I've heard of people taking out kayaks, Livingston's, etc. but I'm more interested in what is reasonable.  Thoughts?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, though I'd stay between Warrenton and the bridge where I could easily head back into the marina (launch at Warrenton).  Most mornings are not too bad weather wise, but it does usually pick up a bit by noonish (not always, but usually).  There was a guy trolling around in a kayak this week, he wasn't having any trouble with rough water.  That said, I sure wouldn't head out to bouy 10 itself, it can turn into nasty water pretty quickly and it would be an ugly run back taking waves over the bow of your boston whaler... but there's always somebody that thinks that's a good idea!
