Weird/Different E. WA Pheasant Closing Date 2013
« on: August 19, 2012, 01:35:50 PM »
Every year one of my pre-season rituals is to mark the opening and closing dates of the waterfowl and upland bird seasons on the calendar. As usual the Opener for the E. WA Pheasant Season is the third Saturday in October, but an entire week has been shaved off the season at the end with the closing date ending on January 13th NOT January 21st, the Holiday Monday, like previous years. Quail, Hun and Chukar will (as usual) close on that Holiday Monday, January 21st.

So...Is this date a misprint or did WDFW shave off a week+ for no apparent reason? :dunno:

From what I remember, eastern Washington pheasant season always closed on December 31st, so (to me) it looks like they added two weeks. But then I haven't hunted over there for a few years so I haven't kept up with the changes in the seasons. I know quail and chukar used to always go into January, but pheasant was always over on December 31st.

It hasn't closed on Dec 31 for quite a few years (I can't recall exactly but I would guess around 10 years).

It used to open at noon on duck hunting opening day (eastern wash) and end the last day of the year.

I wish they would open it concurrent with duck season in eastern washington, I bet a lot of businesses have lost money to that change.

For awhile they did open in concurrent with duck season (eastern wash.) But, the last few years it has been open the weekend after the duck season opener.

But at least you get to hunt into January
