Grouse in forests near sequim?
« on: August 18, 2012, 12:53:46 AM »
We're going camping near Sequim Labor Day weekend. I was thinking of taking my 9 year old out grouse hunting since Sept 1 falls that weekend.  I'm not terribly familiar with the forest area around there.  I'm not looking for anyone's nest or anything, but am curious if anyone has had success for grouse in the forests near there.  thanks!

Well, I only managed a few hours in the field, but managed to spend a bit with my 9 year old up in the forest above Sequim, following Palo Alto Rd into the national forest.  No grouse, but a nice walk and chat with my boy.  Next time we'll get 'em.

at least you were in the right place, I shot my first blue grouse on Palo Alto back in the early 90's.

For future times, I seem to see way more grouse on the FS roads up slab camp...Palo Alto seems to have quite a few ruffs though!
