Williams Sights on the Knight LK-93
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:03:12 AM »
Props to Steve an Williams Gun Sight Company!!!!!!!!!!
Mulling over the decision for quite a few months to peep the front stuffer.  So last Thursday AM I gave Steve a call (thanks Sabotloader for your many posts about Steve and Williams being good people).  Everything was in-stock, went out in that days mail, and the USPS performed and it was in the mail box when I got home yesterday.  Stunning that USPS could perform like that.  :chuckle:  No surprise with Williams though!

I spent some time searching here before my buy on which sights were the one's for the LK-93.  Not too much info here and Williams web site can be a little cumbersome to sort out simply because so many sights are "universal".  So that's where the call to Steve with a "help, here's what I got, here's what I'm thinking for sights".  He really had no better suggestion for me.

So here's the list of parts I chose to go with for my LK-93 (Williams item number)
WMS WGRS Legend peep (051096)
WMS 3/16" Screw On Ramp (001690)
WMS WFSB .375N Fiber Optic Red Bead (056436)
WMS Fire Sight Hood (070031)

And a picture of the un-boxed goodies.

Steve is good people!

The .375 might be a little tall to center in the hood when you put it all together.  I try to use the .312 or .343 to get the post very close to the center of the hood.

When you get sighted in - if the peep is towards the front of the ramp (really I like it near the middle of the ramp) you probably could go with the shorter .343N front sight.  Steve, will just swap you your .375 for the .312 if you have not marked the .375 up putting it in place.

What I am suggesting is to get the top of the front post near the center of the hood so it appears you might be looing through a 1x scope. This picture kinda shows the effect that I am after...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Ahhhh,,,,,  I see what you mean with the ramp height.

Here's a pic showing what it will be like with the .375 and as you can see the FO is in the upper 1/3 rd of the hood.  I'll see what looks like thru the peep.

Understood on the peep being slid forward on the ramp.
It's actually that picture you just posted that sold me on this set-up as you have posted this before.  :)

Any advice on slipping that FO sight into the ramps dove tail for it as it's really really snug even to just get started?

Ya.. that is a problem.  They make a sight pusher just for that job, but I have never bought one.  I have in the past used an adjustable 'c' clamp and a flat bar.  I have also bought a 1/4" brass screw and have used that to drive the sight the sight in.  You can also use fine 3 sided file to file the dovetail, which I hope you do not need to do.

I suggest if you drive the sight into the dove tail of the ramp make sure you support the ramp so the screw does not take all the pressure.

The 'c' clamp works pretty good to get it all started and most of the way in.

Another suggestion when you screw the ramp on be sure to use a lok-tite and then allow the lok-tite time to dry before installing the sight.

I contemplated the c-clamp thought and I also have a small bar clamp that might do the trick too.
Not too keen on the tapping it in idea.
Yeah, Steve and I talked about the lock-tite blue.

Thanks for the tips.

The c-clamp got it 90% in.  Tapping it in with ramp support on the backside finished the job.
Thanks for tips on this Sabotloader.

Now... do you have away to bore sight the rifle so you get an idea of where on the ramp the sight might be?  But you do now see also that the bead is really near the top of hood...

Bore sighted and the sight is about 2/3 rds the way up the ramp.
I'll poke some holes in the paper this weekend and see how it does.

I did pull up on one of the horses in the pasture (shhhh, don't tell the Mrs  :chuckle:) at about 75 yds.  With that view, I really didn't feel it was going to be much of an issue.  It very well could cause me issues at closer in though.  We shall see.
