Locating?
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:56:04 PM »
What is the best way to find out how many dogs are in an area if you just hear a group howl together?  Do different gender howls make certain genders howl back?

Not always. That's a good question. In my experience they there could be different dogs in the same area. Just go out and blow the dinner bell. If they around, you will know shortly. The hard part is, you might think theres nothing there..then you get up and spook the ones behind you or ones getting ready to come over the ridge. My advice is when you stand up, do it very slowly always looking around.
Not for self, but for country

You might have better luck doing it the night before or early the same day. They seem to respond for me better at nite and early, early morning. The only issue is they move from bedding to where the food is and back to the bedding which can be many miles apart, so they may not be on the same place that you originally heard them.
