Remington AR
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:51:35 AM »
Just ordered a R15 What do I need now?

Best Mags?  I need a riser block and scope mounts, have a Leupold 3.5/10 for it. It is nice and light. Should be fun!!

Magpul magazines are the best and well worth the extra money.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I agree on the MagPul mags, they function flawlessly and I have never had a problem with them. For coyotes and Chucks I prefer the MagPul 20 round mags. They fit in any pocket and hardly ever get in the way when shooting in the prone or resting the rifle on something. I believe yours is a 9 twist? , I really like the 50gr BT's and V-Max's out of a 9 twist. My go to load for years has been 27.5grs of BL(C)-2 with the 50gr bullets( Seat them just to fit the mag) it has been super accurate out of many 9 twist AR's mine and friends.

I check Shootersproshop.com often and get smoking deals on Nosler  BT  50gr Seconds(Blems) about half price of retail.

RainerArms has really good prices on MagPul stuff and no matter what the order $7.00 shipping and they are fast at getting orders to you.

As for the riser blocks, get a quality set. I have had nothing but problem with the YHM risers. Once they are tightened up. The quality of the screws used is low and the hex head has a tendency to strip out.

This should work well for your scope...........http://www.opticsplanet.com/burris-ar-tactical-mounts.html

Magpul P-Mags are great and 20 rounders are best suited for dog shootin'

A good sling is a must as you already know.

Money spent on a really good trigger will help.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.

Thanks Gary, that is the mount I looked at yesterday. I sure like how this one  feels over the Olympic K16 I had. Magpuls it is. Another question I had is the 5 round mags look like 10 round with a block or cut off to limit to 5, true??
Yep Have slings, I hate cruddy triggers!! So if it needs it I will get it done or buy a Timney.
thanks
Carl

Crap...

I was going to put my .223 R-15 in the classifieds.  Less then 100 rounds and super accurate.  Has a trigger job, Remington risers, Magpul trigger guard, Badger tactical latch, Magpul mag and a Nikon Coyote Special 4.5 to 14 x 40 on it.  It likes VMaxes in 55 grain.

You will enjoy the new rifle.  I just don't ever shoot mine.
