Places To Fish Coho ?
« on: September 02, 2012, 11:39:51 AM »
Well , i took a trip up to the Quilicene river yesterday and did pretty well. Took home 4 and one was my largest Silver ever at 12 lbs. I was more than a little excited. I live a long way from the Quilicene , i am from the Key peninsula area , and was just wondering if any of you might know of somewhere a little closer where i might pick up a couple Silvers and maybe put my better half on some as this is her first salmon season ?

Also , for those who might be wondering , the Quilicene is FULL of fish as of yesterday and everybody is leaving with there limits. All you gotta do is beat the Natives with the huge treble hooks and broomstick fishin rods to the good holes who claim to be doing it for a living. Thankfully there were only 2 guys all day but when i left they had probably 40 fish between them.

Have you looked at Point-No-Point?  Seemed that during a good outgoing tide, the fish would swim up close to the bank easily within casting range.

Around Hartstine Island later in the month.  I have good luck with a small fish flash followed with a #4 Blue Fox Vibrax in green with a chrome blade or a small Brad's Superbait Cutplug in the laser rainbow pattern with anise and herring scent.   If you find a school of them cast a green or chartreuse Vibrax or a blue or green pirate wiggle wart  in under 15 feet of water.   :twocents:

You can do well by remaining mobil and opportunistic.  Word of mouth can send you to the best estuary bank fishing day by day.....its better to travel and take limits than go close and go home with no fish.

If IFISH is still going, Im sure it is, you can get localized hot spot info daily.  Boats are great, but you are pretty much committed once you launch, unless plan B is close by.

We used to run from Hood River to CHinook, the COwlitz, Kalama, Willapa, Snohomish......to name a few.

Watch tides in the estuaries....at high tide fish start moving up and the action can be fast as the tide slacks and goes back out.  Lower Hump, we used to slay them in there.........lots of time.
