Drew Pogue Quality
« on: June 18, 2025, 11:52:41 AM »
Well ladies and gentlemen; I think I might have to stop complaining about how much WDFW hates me.  After 24 years in the draw, and not drawing a quality tag since I started putting in when the Army moved me back here to Washington in 2001, last year I finally drew a Quality Bull Tag, and this year I finally drew a Quality Buck Tag.
So, I am starting a thread for folks to keep up with my quest this year, and also (since a lot of you know the unit much better than me) letting all-y'all know that I don't mind a kick in the right direction if anyone wants to give it.. ;)
A little background; I live in SE Washington.  I will be able to get up to the unit to scout this summer.  I have hunted the unit before, but it has been a pretty long time.  For reference, I have not been in the unit since all of the fires. I know they have changed some stuff.
I have a couple of buddies that live in the unit, and I know I will be relying on them for a lot of help.  I also know this is generally a "pray for weather" hunt, and that the deer like to congregate on private property.
So... If anyone has any ideas to kickstart my scouting (or my hunt) and you don't want them on the web, please feel free to PM me.  Also, if there are any "obvious" tips or hints that "everyone" already knows, please throw 'em out there.  Like I said, it's been a while since I hunted up there...

Glad they quit hating on you, I think they took the hate and added it on to me.   I've heard that's a good hunt, never been there but sounds like you will have plenty of help, congrats!!

That can be a good hunt for either a big migratory muley or whitetail.

No, No, the WDFW doesn't hate you! I'm pretty sure they hate me and my hunting buddies. The three of us now EACH have 28 points! Thought the draw was pretty good deal when it started, now at 76 years old I think it's , well, not so good. My brother-in-Law is 76 also, my son is 55.
  Kinda sucks :bdid:

Thanks all for the well wishes and a few of you that PM’ed me some places to get started. First scouting trip next week. I don’t really expect to find deer, mostly just looking to get reacquainted with the unit, learn the roads and mark potential glassing points. I’ll post if I find anything interesting.

Congratulations!! Your tag holds some amazing country. I drew the Chewuch Quality tag. If I had your tag, I know exactly where I would start my hunt. You're lucky to have friends in the area. They will be the most help. I'm excited for you and wish you the best of luck!
