First Bow Kill.. Blacktail Doe.
« on: September 06, 2012, 11:29:31 AM »
Got her at about 7:15 this morning. 40yds. heart shot! She was quartered to me, went in forward of the left shoulder, came out behind the right shoulder. I was stalking into the clearcut that Ive been going to and getting close all week, and she was coming down the road toward me. I got off the road and took a knee in the bushes.. Came to full draw and estimated the range to be 40yds with my calibrated eye  :chuckle: and I put it on her! She went maybe 50yds and left a thick spurting blood trail. I barely had to do any work to get her in the bed of my truck! Just the luck a lazy hunter like me dreams of! She is gonna be good eatin! I am making an attempt at tanning the hide too, We will see how that turns out.

My buddy is trying to talk me into getting an elk tag and going with him.. But I doubt I could pull that off. Elk are huge and would be alot more work to haul out. I think Im going to get out and see if I can find some doves or grouse.

took it to a friends house who lives close to where I killed it and we gutted it out and hung it up and skinned it there. The guts werent in there for more than an hour. I think it will be fine. She was in the bed of my truck 5min after I made the shot. Its just easier to work when you have a tarp laid out and a water hose. Im excited! My friend whose garage its hanging in happens to be a professional butcher so when he gets off work today he will make quick work of turning it into grill ready meat!

If I had the chance to load it up and get it back that quick I may have done the same thing. She will result in some fine meals. Did you mention what type of head you were shooting? Sounds like it performed well for you.

Martin Threshold bow, 67lb measured draw weight, 27.5" draw length, cabelas carbon hunter 340 spine arrows with 2" vanes, G5 Montec broadhead. My first  compound bow, I got it in april and have been practicing all year. First bow season, first bow kill. Thanks to my fiance who got me the bow for my birthday. I was pissed about rifle hunting in western wa after the last 2yrs wasted. I decided bow season had better odds because 2 months of hunting and either sex. Looks like that idea panned out.
If things go as planned, next year Ill be hunting in Texas on my private property, where you can kill 4 deer per year and use whatever weapon you want. Im going to try with bow, .308 rifle, 10mm glock, and maybe my mosin or something lol. Ill use 4 different weapons for 4 different deer is my point. Thanks to my grandma who left me 65 acres there!
