Just a doe.  Probably holds about 45lbs of meat.  Nothing special.  No pics.  Big thanks to akashasdaddy for helping me find her, drag her, and gut her.   That's it until the 21st when I go after my second deer.

If I can get my 2nd and both the kids connect, that'll be 4 deer in the freezer.  That will let me be selective next year for the first time in a LOOOOONG time

1 down, 1 to go.....
We do have bears an cats east, never know??
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

49.5lbs.  My anti-hunting wife who won't eat the deer meat had an ever so slight twinge in her eye when I explained that when I was done trimming the steaks I wanted, I'd probably have 35lbs of ground burger and, if we do that 3 more times (my 2nd deer tag and my 2 oldest boys), that'd be 60lbs of steak and 105lbs of ground burger and that is a lot of meatloaf, hamburger helper, taco meat, etc.  I don't have any doubt in my mind that she will continue to NOT eat deer meat but, I think I may have planted a seed, finally.

Congrats on the Doe, they are soooo tasty. Had some backstrap last night. :chuckle:
Lots of hunters get they're deer by "dumb luck", I would say you were ready when dinner showed up and that's what counts. Good luck putting lots in your freezer and converting the non venison eaters. LOL It only took one good meatloaf to convert 2 Vegetarians in my house.

It's not the flavor for my wife, it's the principle.  She's Buhdist and is a hardcor anti-hunting "Why kill it when you can go to the store and buy it?" person.  I have given her every reasonable angle of the discussion and she's not having it so, I don't need pointers on what else to say to her.  I just sit and hope that one day she gets it.  Not holding my breath though

And so is the bear and cougar

Bear is potentially the easiest of the group to fill. You're either in them or you're not.
