carbon Vs. aliminum shafts

I'm gettin into this bow hunting thing. I wanted to get some opinions on carbon Vs. Aluminum shafts. Right now,  I'm shootin a #50 compound with aluminum. I am going to be switching to a recurve shortly though. What is your folks opinion? Thansk

i shoot aluminun because they're cheap, really straight and fly great!

Carbons are better.  Alum. are good as well.

Carbon is cheaper in cost them aluminum.
You cant bend a carbon arrow. they break. tougher and last longer for practice and hunting. I either break one or lost in the pasture.
You do need to use caution and check them regular for cracks or splinters. But for cost and durability carbon is cheaper in the long run.

Aluminum are straighter most times. But it doesn't take much to bend one. Straightness between the two is like arguing over the better golf ball though. I couldn't tell you which is better from accuracy and my ability's.

FYI, the ONLY time i've bent an aluminum arrow is when shooting groups.  don't shoot groups, don't bend arrows!

Do you ever miss? Shoot 3d and others hit ur arrow?

I shot Aluminums for years, good as long as ur a perfect shot and never miss. Carbons are IMO the only way to go. Either broke or perfect.

of course i miss!    usually when i do i can't find the arrow!     they do bend if you hit a rock, but a carbon will be just as busted on the same rock.

I do shoot 3d with them and have lost one or two to banging at the target, but the same can be said of carbons.  start slapping carbons together and you'll end up with splintered shafts.  "Flex before each shot."  eh, not for me.  like you said, carbons are either broke or not, but "broke" can be a hairline crack you don't notice until the arrow is in your hand.  does it happen often, no, but we've all seen the pictures    I'm not a top level shooter competing for money at tournaments, so if an arrow does end up with a bend i cant see and i blow a target, eh, no biggie. 

now, all that said, i DID buy a dozen lightspeeds to shoot 3D next year.     i wanted the lighter weight to make it less important to judge perfect yardage.  I also bought the Protex kevlar glove.  some might say i'm paranoid, but i think of it more as prepared for the worst.

I shot aluminum for years and still do for indoor target. My favorite hunting shaft is carbon...mainly because no matter where i go...chances are i will find some if replacements are needed. It used to be the opposite and all shops had a huge selection of aluminum shafts, but those days seem to be all gone.
Ive seen a fair share of aluminum arrow through the bow hand pictures too! Its a matter of neglect on some level or another no matter what shaft material.

Oh when you go to the trad side..it's gonna be a bit tuffer finding carbon arrows that will give you the weight most trad shooters are looking for. I remember shooting high 500 grain marks and higher!! Thats a tall order for a carbon.

I shoot wood arrows and build them as heavy as I can. The important thing is they will shoot properly out of the bow I'll be using.

Saw a guy opening week with bandage on his bow hand. Arrow blew up on him, so I'm curious where you get a Kevlar glove and would it really protect?   
I use carbon, only check if I over grouped.... Should I be checking more?   
Personally I like carbon better, but now worrying.   Hoe about the carbon aluminum arrows?

If you guys want the best of both worlds buy the ACCs from easton. Aluminum wrapped with carbon. Best arrow ever made. JMO!
They will still bend if mistreated but straight with weight for hunting.
Also if your looking at results you wont hardly ever see aluminum arrows in the top 3 archers quivers. Even Indoors most are changing over to the fat carbon arrows.  Prices are so close anymore its actually cheaper to just shoot all carbon.
