Hey everyone. I am new to the area and I know I am late in the game. I live in the DuPont and looking for areas to hunt in. I was wondering if GMU 666 is an OK area. I am still researching how hunting in the state of Washington works with the laws and all. I am kinda new to hunting did it when I was a kid and trying to get back into it. Any help would be great not asking for where you get your bucks at just a little advise. It is too late to scout since i don't wanna piss off the archers. one of my major questions though is if i buy my license is it only good for one area or the whole state. same with elk. Thank you

In general you deer tag is weapon specific, not area. Your weapon choice will determin the seasons set which you can hunt. Elk is the same way with the added detail of being east/west specific.

Thank you for the Information. At least now I can get my tag and if I don't like the area at 666 around lewis I can move to a different area. Is there a place to look up the hunting laws I have the big game book but it doesn't really talk about the laws I saw the orange requirement. But looking for more info rather be right and respect the rules then play dumb and loose I rifle and ability to hunt.

The regs will spell it out. Again...in general...if you are hunting with a rifle you need orange. I don't know of any muzzy or modern firearm seasons that don't require it. Grab a vest and ball cap and you are good to go. Give some folks time to wake up and hope you will get some PM's with info. Most people are faily happy to help our service men and women.

There are quite a few of us that hunt the base. The deer are hard to find but they are there......

To hunt the base you first have to register your fire arm at the Visitor Center and then register to hunt at the Adventure Center.
No all areas are open to hunting, you have to sign in and out every time you hunt, and only a specific numbers of hunters in a given area, so you are hunting a popular area, you have to sign up the day before and early. When you register to hunt, they will explain it to you and sell you a map of the areas.

Of subject: I used to work in Lakewood and boy we had some monster BT on our golf course!!! Huge bucks around McCord and Fort Lewis!!!!

I'm, almost, ready to agree with akirkland. I have hunted Ft.Lewis all Gen. Arch., this year, and other than very few, old, tracks, I have seen nothing. The places where they have been seen are, continoulsy being closed and placed off limits. Most of the others one has to contend with hores bakc riders, bicycle riders or A__HOLES traingin their dogs in the woods; ALL, of course, obviously, trespassing and nothing being done about it. They push the deer so far back that one can't get to them without making more noise than a herd fo Bison on a stampede.

The hunting, on Ft. Lewis is good, but the seeing, at present, perhaps due to the dryness of everything weather, SUCKS.

when i was stationed at lewis, when we would train at mout city i would see some absolute toads up the steep hill to the west, dont know if you can hunt that but it would be a great spot for a tree stand, that was in the early 90s though, are you an MP? by chance, anyways vail will be your best bet but get ready for combat huntn at its finest, and of course that will be if weyerhauser doesnt close it down..... pray for rain.... welcome to the site...

been out in the backwoods of FT Lewis 2 times a week lately, and have yet to see a deer, except for along the highway doing 60 coming home. although my buddy got a nice 3x4 out there about two weeks ago. haven't heard of many others getting anything THIS year.

I almost tripped over a doe walking through there last week out by mikytna. They can lay there and watch you walk within a few feet if they don't think you saw them.

One of the problems is, 'Strange Control' says a TA is open for Compatible Hunting and when you go to sign into that area, it is "Closed and Off Limits". Most of the time it is where numerous sightings of deer, AND bear, have been reported. I smell something and it isn't me.

BTs love the rain and with it, one can walk move, much, quieter through the woods. Pray for rain!!

My Deer Tag isn't in the soup pot, yet, there is still Late Season.

So I screwed up and couldn't get my paperwork in to hunt on ft Lewis so now I have no where to hunt any one know any place I can hunt. Please help.

What do you mean you couldn't get your paper work in? As far as I know there is no deadline for when you want to go to the Adventure Center and register. I really hope this isn't something new as I'm in Afghanistan right now and am supposed to be back for the later archery season. I just planned to register once I redeployed.

No you will be good I didn't get my guns registered with PMO so I have to wait a week. Can't go there opening day.

Whew, I was a little worried there. Good luck out there and enjoy the area. Some really cool spots on the base.
