Gates
« on: September 20, 2012, 01:58:12 PM »
I spent 6 days biking and hiking behind Weyerhauser gates this year for elk during Archery Season. While I did not get one 2 other guys in my group did connect with an elk. I started wondering if these gates would be locked or open during rifle season. I was told that they were locked mostly due to fire danger, so that in November they would likely be open. I found myself thinking that I wished they would stay locked, seems like it forces people to work harder for the elk, separates many road hunters from those who want to get out and and hike for them rather than drive as fast as possible from one clear cut to another hoping to shoot an elk and then hoping nobody can tag it before they get down there to it!!!!.
Just curious what others think about the matter??

You got lucky I guess because almost all Weyerhaeuser land is closed to anything due to extreme fire danger.  [url]http://www.weyerhaeuser.com/Businesses/RecreationalAccess/Washington[url] just click on the Recreational Access Hotline.  You must have been in there just before they closed it.

i wish they would lock up everything, make it all walk in... unless your a senior or a disabled hunter then it should be walkin only..... let the flamin begin.....my own opinion there isnt a whole lot of sport blastin from the rig of course if your just a meat hunter then its no biggie, nothin like sneakin up on your quarry, killn the engine and going *censored*s over elbows to get a shot off dont sound like alot of fun
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"

I hate gates i am lucky enough to live in an area that has very few,  but i grew up in enumclaw and everything is locked up there you cant even walk in without a expensive petmit.. Bull**it If you wanna hike there is pleny of areas that has no roads.. Remember back before gates there was more deer and elk than there is now so they are not helping our game populations its just making money for a big timber company with expensive permits.. If its going to be locked up as private land then they should pay private land taxes not timberland taxes! And they dont qualify for the open spaces act of 1970 if they lock up the land and charge a fee to enter it! Therefore no more big tax break!
