Mule deer and lack of rain
« on: September 25, 2012, 11:10:58 AM »
Heading over for our annual muzzleloader mule deer hunt in the okanagon and was wondering how the lack of rain is affecting the deer activity. Are the deer low around the agr. fields high out of the heat, holed up on the northside of ridges near water? Or are they were they've always been. What has everyone been seeing. If anyone has any insight it would be appreciated.

Thanks Kram and sons                                    :hello:

Mule deer drink water?  :chuckle:
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Can't go into details because I'm not well versed in mule deer habits but the one I shot was in a herd of 15 coming out of the alfalfa fields early morning and heading up into the hills west of Tonasket

In the high country of Chelan County the mule deer have become more nocturnal.  That could be the case with the dry warm temps up north as well.

Lack of rain?  Record rainfalls here this year, and it basically didn't stop until nearly August.  Plenty of water everywhere here, but as for finding the deer, that might be a different story.

I thought they kicked cactus over and ate the pulp out of the center for liquid..   :dunno: :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
