Hunting in new area--modern firearm

Hey all!!


I live in Whatcom County and I'm hunting up here for the first time. I normally hunt in the Toutle/Battle Ground (GMU 564) areas. If you guys have any advice as where to go or if you've heard where the deer are, please pass it on! We need the meat in the freezer!!!

From what I know most hunting on that side of the free way is shotgun/bow only

Start putting in time and scouting. The I want my free Obama stuff has passed.


Fuel and time isnexpensive and nothing can substitute for time in the field and the mf is a week in the future .  If I put in the time and substantial expense I would not post on Internet for last minute hunters.

That far north, I think its open for rifle everywhere. There is a line about the snohomish/skagit county line where that restriction stops.

I've been in the hunting scene my whole life so I know about scouting and whatnot. I'm pretty familiar with the laws in my area and I'm pretty sure rifles are ok. I would have loved to have scout like I did last year, but schedule didn't allow it.

I hear it's the best hunting ever and everyone from the state should go there - I hear it's almost impossible not to tag out  (It's a long ways from where I'm hunting LOL).

That said, you're pretty much going to be winging it!  I enjoy hunting this way because I'm mostly in it to be outdoors and explore new areas.  Google earth is your friend - look for hard to get to places (due to gates or topography etc.) and go there.  During modern season, crowds will be challenging so give yourself lots of options.  I'm going to a new area for the first half of the season and I've been printing off google earth screenshots and programing all the likely areas into my GPS. 

Soliciting info on specific spots on here is mostly a waste of your time, but if you word it well (what TYPE of spot instead of where should I go) and have thick skin for the inevitable "put on your boots and scout" post someone might throw you a bone.  Search on this forum/google will also get you tons of info about any given area even if it's more general than you wanted.

But I don't have the time to use the search function. Sounds like a lot of work. And during the Summer I like to have fun and party and don't want to waste time scouting and hiking. Just thinking about it makes me tired.

Cmon email a map with an area to shoot a nice buck for me and my family.
