record?? or nice buck ?
« on: October 01, 2012, 09:38:08 AM »
i have seen the same thing every year, someones friend , cousin, or neighbors buddy shot the new : world, state, p&y or b&c record.  Shooting a dandy buck or bull is one thing and i wouldnt gripe if you posted a pic and claimed it was a good buck. no problem. but why would anyone make claims of #1  record status,( drying period ???)  then you get more than a few people fired up. i think its because the claim of a "nice " buck is a opinion . the claim of a "record" is a fact.  "trophy" is in the eye of the hunter. "record" is purely based on measured points and a measurement system.  so please , before you post the new record buck, please have the FACTS to back it up.  If you arent sure (not official), post the pic and dont make any claims. the internet scoring police are real, and they wont let any new record book claims slide.
you cant eat the horns, but backstraps look like crap on my wall!!!!

Question, how much would you pay to easily process a score from your iPhone??   $5.00  $1.00 or pay for an app that you could score and measure a variety of animals, and then post them to a gallery?
Hunting, Basketball, Cars.... not much more for me to talk about.

Yes. This horse meat aint tender yet.  Maybe we need a thread titled "Admonishments".   DO NOT:

1.Don't post about a record, unless it is one, but only if it's officially scored, by someone who isn't a friend or taxi, unless they're the only person available, then do post, just don't call it a record. Unless it is.
2. Never shoot anything with any equipment, at any range, in any conditions, even if legal, unless that's how I would do it. But don't ever do it where I would because it's mine. No it's not private, it's just mine. Send your permission to shoot submissions early and have one in writing.
3. Wear orange anytime I would. If you have any doubt about the propriety of orange-less pictures, you're probably a poacher.
4. Unless your home straddles the exact cascade crest, you are either a "coasty" or one of the lord's chosen. Recognize that public land in E-wa belongs to E-wa residents. Coasties exist to produce the tax base for E-wa. Keep the hell out of their forests.
5. Wolves.
6. Indians.
7. Never talk about wolves and indians at the same time, it will create an internet black hole and we'll all disappear in an instant.
8. Point restrictions are a great management tool, except everywhere where they don't work. We should expand those rules everywhere, except where it's not a good idea, which is a lot of places.
9. Never road hunt. If possible, don't drive to where you will begin hunting, it muddies the water. If this is confusing to you, POACHER.
10. If you see someone break a rule, turn them in. Unless they are acting against wolves, then just feel bad about not turning them in. Or, if they're killing an injured road hit animal, unless it's a trophy quality one because maybe they hit it on purpose? There are no accidents, just rule followers and poachers. Always do the right thing. Just don't tell anyone because no good deed goes unpunished.  Never post what you did wrong, unless you just haven't had a barbed wire enema recently, in which case, carry on.

id pay for that app. good idea. unfortunately, we do need another thread.  its happened already a few times here and we arent even to the rifle season. i forgot to include the "new world record" elk we seem to get every year or 2 from idaho. that always turns out to be a high fence elk

There already are apps for that.  For Iphones, and droids.  I have it on my droid, and it was free.  Just plug in the "true" measurements, and it spits out the scores. :dunno:

Phool - I take it you don't think they are accurate, or is there some other flaw in using them?  the trophy culture?  I am only asking, because I have never looked for an app for scoring.

That iPhone app works very well, the issue as MtnMuley pointed out, is that for it to work correctly the "true" measurement needs to be entered. ;)

researching now, but, do you manually score the rack, then input each number..... then it calculates the score?  simple spreadsheet calcs?

Hunting, Basketball, Cars.... not much more for me to talk about.

Enter each measurement and let the app do it.

Okay heavy hauler, all I posted about is if anyone has heard about a particular buck that was shot.  I had heard that it could possibly challenge the state record. Never once claimed it was the record for a fact.  As I also stated, I didn't have the pics of it either.  There is no crying in baseball, probably shouldn't be any in a hunting forum either.

Simpler than plugging in the messurements?
