No water where I hunt!
« on: October 04, 2012, 08:37:34 PM »
Ok, I am relatively new to waterfowl hunting... In years where there is little water what to do? Hunt crop lands, pass shooting, jump shooting or what? I'm accustomed to hunting late season in flooded corn fields or rather full ponds from a blind. Ive got a layout blind but not sure what to focus on regarding where to set up. I've got access to public and private property but just learning the ropes. Thanks for the help gents!

When i was a kid we hunted with a guy in the potholes and after it froze for the winter and the weather was foggy or bad (not snowing to hard) we would lay black plastic over the ice and use shell decoy's and always shot duck's and some geese. Have not tried it it many years now as we snowmobile after the middle of December now.

Find Water, ducks have webbed feet for swimming.  If there are ducks around there is water somewhere.  Hunting cropland can be very effective but it takes allot of door knocking.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

If you can't be where they are feeding or roosting. Be somewhere between the two.
Bird counts in signature are as gay as Elton John's fanny pack.
