From Hancock:

"Yes, we have allowed  3 Special Draw Elk Hunters onto the tree farm, we have briefed them on the expectations of allowing them on the tree farm during this high fire danger time.

We will do our best to get to you guys in for hunting this next weekend.  We are hoping for somefall later this week. "

....as for the rest of us that spent $$$  - we're screwed I guess.

Silk - you have my apologies.  I'm assuming your buddy is one of the 3 -  should be a pleasant hunt with nobody else in there.  Please do continue on with the stories!   :brew:

Curtis

Even if there were no fire danger kapowsin would be shut down to everyone but these three guys anyways. It says so right in the rules when you buy the permit. I don't know why people are so butt hurt about this. I hope all three hunters tag a monster. GOOD LUCK!

I think you might be right... You don't know why people are butt hurt.  We're butt hurt because we lost our entire early season due to closures, and didn't realize some of the special tag holders were allowed in.

So in short, I made a mistake in assuming that when Hancock posts this: "All areas are temporarily CLOSED for ALL recreation access due to high fire danger", it meant for everyone.  The reality is that they meant everyone EXCEPT those three guys.

Silk - again buddy sorry for jacking your thread.  My mistake.

Curtis
It's THEIR private land they can do what they want with it. It's 3 guys. Your really getting your panties in a bunch for three guys? I didn't get to go in there during early archery either. But I knew that was a possibility so guess what I did. I planned accordingly and scouted other areas. I would never begrudge anyone a once in a lifetime opportunity.

You know, you're absolutely right.  You win good sir.

Silk - as I stated earlier:  Hope you continue with the stories and hope your buddy has a good hunt!

FINALLY SOME ACTION!

So after a quiet couple of days and a multitude of 5 points, the Tag Holder headed out down a certain road in the Hancock (walking) and they spotted a 6 point up on the hillside.  Pretty average/small 6 point I'm told, and too small to hang a tag on this early.  They continued on to no avail.  On the way back, they spotted another 6 point.  They quickly set up a cow decoy and started cow calling.  The bull came running right to the decoy, screaming and bugling.  If it was Friday...maybe...But there are bigger bulls in there and he knows it, so the Tag Holder passed.

But nonetheless, a bull screaming in your face is a pretty cool experience (maybe one day I'll get to experience that haha).

Hopefully we can get some blood tomorrow!

According to who?  According to the web site and all the signs, hancock is closed for all rec use

I'm just about to not post anything else for you guys.  They have permission from Hancock.  One more post about how it's closed, and I'll just have the MOD's delete the thread and then nobody gets any pictures or stories when he gets his bull.
I havent read all the post i just read up to hear and will help you out, my buddy works for Hancock and they are allowing the permit holders to HUNT... so IT is open for permit holders..
Their going down!!!

The weather change has stoked the fire a little bit for the Tag Holder. The elk are talking a bit now. They were able to call a 5x7 in this morning along with another 5 point, but he still hasn't found the right bull. Hopefully this cooler weather sticks around and we will have a BBD tonight!

That would be the hardest part of having that permit..... I would need some one else to hold my gun for me.  :chuckle:
