Muzzy hunt recap
« on: October 07, 2012, 02:14:33 PM »
Well I finally decided to post the story of my muzzy second deer hunt from Oct 1st. We left Yakima about 3:00am on the first and arrived at the hunting area a little before daylight spotted 4 bucks but couldnt get in range for my buddy to connect with his muzzleloader. As we were on our way to our second spot i spotted some deer off to out right where we could hunt. When we left i had planned on worrying about getting him his buck first, then worrying about my doe, well there was a couple big does in this group so i figured i would just knock one down and get it over with. Those does walked up the hill and there was still one doe alot closer so i decided to try to get her with my bow that i brought. I put my release on and we slipped up the hill a little while she just sat there, i realized we forgot my rangefinder and judged her at 60 yards, my buddy agreed. I drew back and put the 60yard pin where i wanted it and let her fly. I knew i hit her but wasnt sure how good because i didnt see the arrow. She took off like a bat outta hell but only made it about 40yards then stopped and started swaying back and forth, it was done! Couldnt find my arrow due to the deep grass but there was a solid blood trail out of both sides of the deer. Turned out to be a double lung shot. Not the biggest doe, but she had milk so she was mature.

We got her taken care of and headed to our next spot, saw a few deer but nothing to go after, it was now about 10:00am and we were wondering what we were going to do. That is when i got a text from another member(Maverick) that he knew where 3 bucks were bedded. We met up with him and he showed us where they were and we started the climb up the ridge. As we neared the top we were walking around the brim of a little cliff that would put us about 100yards away from the bedded bucks. We were almost to the end when i looked forward and there stood a 3x3 looking straight at me around the cliff about 8yards away. All you could see was his head and neck, i looked back at my buddy and whispered shoot him! he looked at me weird because i was about 4 feet in front of him, i said it again! SHOOT! i backed up against the cliff and covered my years and eyes and he smoked him! 8yard shot in the neck. Completely different buck from the others. I ran up to the edge of the cliff and looked at the other bucks still standing there, nothing to make me want to waste my late whitetail rut tag.

Here is a picture of my daughter with my doe.
