Did someone drown?
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:43:04 PM »
A couple of weekends ago I was fly fishing with a cousin of mine in a high mountain lake. There was a moment in time when things happened just right. The water flattened out like glass, the water was crystal clear so we could see down forty or fifty feet to the bottom. The angle of the sun was just right and we drifted to a position that was very small to see what I saw. I first thing that I saw something kind of shiny that looked like the broken off part of the bottom of a fishing pole. As I looked closer, I saw that it was the entire pole. Then I saw a pair of binoculars and the a walkie talkie. As I looked more, I saw tackle strewn along with a glove and a folding knife close to it. There also was a rope down there.

I put a treble hook along with a weight on my pole and hooked the fishing pole at the bottom of the lake. I then hooked the binoculars and brought them to the surface. After that I hooked the rope on the lake bottom and brought it up, but there was an anchor on the other end that was wedged between some rocks.

I think someone was fishing this lake and the wind picked up like it can and the water probably got pretty rough. Then the anchor got stuck with wind pushing the boat tight on the rope. I am thinking that the boat flipped at this point. I was concerned as I looked at this stuff about seeing a body down there, was not likely but crossed my mind. I am curious if anyone here knows about this and I would be happy to return the guys stuff if he wants it.

I truly hope that whom ever this happened to is alright.

Call the Sheriff's Office for the county you were in and tell them what you found, they should be able to help you. :twocents:
