Wolf Encounter! (Huckleberry Pack)
« on: October 10, 2012, 12:58:49 PM »
My bro-in-laws brother was out elk hunting yesterday on the north boundry of the Spokane Indian Reservation and ran into some of the Huckleberry pack.

He said he could hear something coming towards him through the brush so he got ready thinking it might possibly be some elk. He said a big dark grey one came in and stopped at about 12yds, sensed something not right then turned around and left. Then shortly after a different one came in and stopped 15-20yds away, made eye contact for a few seconds then turned around and left with 3 young ones following behind.

I was just up in the same area last Saturday and we found a fresh moose pit that could'nt have been more then 2-3hrs old. Right in the not dried yet moose piss were fresh wolf tracks.

Very disheartening, the moose numbers were getting to a decent level and now this  :bash:

I have hunted and shed hunted this area for the last 25yrs, there are still alot of moose up in this area but within the last 2 years the numbers are way down from where they were. Unfortunately in the next few years I think we will see alot of our OIL moose tags being taken away.

These wolves have been in that unit 3 or 4 years now working on the game, there are other wolves on the north end.  :yike:

Elkslayer, would you post this in the wolf sighting topic too?
