Clemens/bald mountain
« on: October 19, 2012, 12:20:07 PM »
I was reading a post earlier about access from wenas to Clemens being blocked snd I couldn't remember which route the were talking about. I'm try to plan on getting to 1701 next week usually go over 410 but if there is to much snow my alternate route has been 1713 (cow canyon) off of wenas dies anyone know if that's not blocked?

Cow Canyon Rd is open.
Hog Ranch Rd is a more direct route to get up to the 1701 then Cow is.

Should be ok going up 1701 with decent tires IF there is snow off 410.  Logging going on at the top of 1701 west of intersection that forks to top of clemans.  Also I just took hog ranch last week and if you don't have tires that can handle snow then you're not gonna make it if its dry.  This year is the worst I've seen hog ranch from the wenas side to the 1701 side, very bumpy, rocky and pretty tore up.  Ill take it again because my vehicle and tires can take it but I wouldn't suggest it if you're not carrying at least 8ply tires.

I ran Hog Ranch up to 1701 from Wenas once during the muzzy season.  That is one rough road!  If you can make it  up Hog Ranch, I see no reason why you couldn't get to the top via 1701 off 410.  I found that it only took about 20 minutes more to go 1701, 410, then jump over to Wenas from Naches than it did to take Hog Ranch.

I concur, as 410 to 1701 was the same way I went to the upper end of Hog Ranch near the DNR/NF line during muzzy season.  Hog Ranch will beat the snot out of ya beginning shortly after the Boise camp. :chuckle:

Thanks for the info I've been hunting up there for 20 years and usuly take 410 ( if it is t closed)from the west side of the state to 1701.My alternate route is I-90 to Ellensburg to Malloy Rd up to 1701. Which is quicker then taking 82 to Yakima and then taking 410 back to 1701. I was asking the question because I had heard it was blocked.

Has Manastash Rd been re-opened???

I think you might be referring to manastash ridge rd, if so, then no it hasn't been re-opened.  I tried to take it and hit a dead end and then tried to go down the jeep trail and decided not to since it was really really really steep with sharp rocks, deep potholes and everything you could want on a trail if you had a jeep, which I don't have, though I would've liked to have gone up it.  But I believe manastash rd connects to barber springs, but not entirely sure? :dunno:

manastash connects to barber springs.  there are some rough spots up there, but not too bad.

team base, where did you hear 410 was closed?

I don't think he said it was closed he just said he goes the long way around when it does get closed for the winter. But yes manastash does connect up with barber springs and is a bit rough to the top where it ties in with 1701 but difinitely doable

you cant get through manashtash further up , but it's open at 1701 to barbar springs and loop loop road , I drove it in archery season , some times you can get through till dec depending on the snow .
