did i hit my head?
« on: August 30, 2008, 08:51:25 AM »
i bought a hammock to sleep in on the high hunt, i will also carry a tarp to string out over the hammock in case of rain, anyone ever try this? i imagine the worst thing is no ground to insulate your underside, oh well i'll only be about 2 hrs from the truck so if i get too misserable i'll load up and hike back out.

Put a "space blanket" on the hammock first or directly under your sleeping bag. Keeps the heat reflected back and stops the wind from coming up underneath.

I do that all the time.  I learned it from hunting in Hawaii where you don't want to sleep on the ground in the Jungle.  The space blanket or something under you works great for keeping your butt warm.

I have now purchased a military surplus hammock with a surrounding bu net and rain fly attached. Works great.  I still take a small tarp to make a camp cover.  I also just keep my gear under my hammock and it then stays dry also.
