Can't catch a break...
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:39:25 PM »
Last year I missed out on most of deer season cause I was sick. This year I actually set aside some vacation days so I could hunt the last 3 days of modern firearm season. I have bait down at my deer spot, and was getting optimistic about my chances this year. Then last night my son got a fever of 103°. I am still hoping the fever will break soon enough for me to get out on the 31st at least. Could use some luck and/or prayers that my son gets better fast though.

Man that stinks, it is no fun when the little ones get sick.  It will end up working out for you in the end though!!!  Positive thoughts to you my friend.

She is a school teacher, and since I already have the time off work, it makes more sense for me to stay home on paid vacation time with our son, than for my wife to take time off too. :(

Oh, good idea bobcat, if my wife gets home early enough I will have to see if I can make it out for at least an hour or two in the evening. Who knows, if the bird hunting is any indication, maybe it's just taken 3 years for my "beginner's luck" to start paying off.

Thanks Run. His temp is finally down to normal range, but am not sure if that is just cause of the ibuprofen yet, as he still has a nasty sounding cough. Crossing my fingers though.

another awesome dad in my books.  kids over hunting regardless.  I've had the same dilemma and I stuck it out with the kids until the worst of the storm was over then called grandma to babysit who was mad because she could've been watching them the whole time spoiling the heck out of them but, there's always going to be hunting and time spent with the kids is precious regardless if they're sick or not, my  :twocents:  keep your head up dad and you're opportunity will come.

Thanks for the supportive posts. Grandma (or nonny as my son calls her) isn't available. But maybe I'll be able to get some evening hunting in after mom gets home.

Atta boy for doing what you gotta do as a dad. There's lots of hunting seasons and lots of time to hunt in the future.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield
