hunting coyotes with a spotlight

i want to go out next saturday late at night just to listen for any vocals that blacktail might make at night, where i have been hunting for deer is just loaded with coyote and cougar crap, so i was thinkn i should bring a gun along incase i run into a big cat or a yote, but i damn sure aint gonna do it if it isnt legal, any help would be great... thanks in advance, oh yeah i will have a spotlight with me.....and i would be in the mashel unit which i beleive is open for rifle elk that weekend as well..

If it is open for any modern firearm deer or elk, it would illegal to hunt at night.   

Copied from pg 68 of the hunting regs:

Coyote may be hunted at night
year round, EXCEPT it is unlawful
to hunt coyote at night during the
months of September, October,
or November in any area open to a
centerfire rifle deer or elk season
It is better to be consistently incorrect than inconsistently correct...
