5x5 bull elk taken with knight big horn

This is my first elk, actually my first big game animal!!! I have only been hunting the last two year and man do I ever enjoy it.
I don't know why I never had time to hunt before. I love going out into the wild and seeing new adventures every time!
Anyways, I thought I would share this. Nice 5x5 taken in the lower part of the Yale unit  10-10-12.  Weighted 405 hanging at the butcher!!!

Actually, I was out in a cow pasture. I had some private land to hunt, and they just happend to be there.

I guess I could of called it a 6x6, those two nubs were maybe about an inch long.

As for the gloves, i was about to start to gut this guy then my buds showed up to help. Decided it was picture time!!!

As for my load,
I am using a Hornady SST 300 grain bullet.
Triple Sever powder. 100 grains.
#11 CCI magnum cap with hot lips nipple

I have tried several other bullets/loads and could not shoot height enough. At 75 - 100 yards I have 1" groupings with this load.

I have even tried the new knight blood line bullets. To be honest, the were too much of a pain the the ass to load. I shot a couple and then said the hell with it. Didn't feel like bring a press to get the bullet started.!!!

To be honest, I had to shoot this guy 3 times. All three shots were in the neck! (Yes, I pulled every shot). The first shot, he stumbled around for 10 yrs or so then dropped.  The other two shots, he got up and once the bullet hit him, he dropped like a sack of taters. Didn't move too much

I've had the exact opposite experience with the Bloodlines and Hornady's in my Bighorn, Bloodlines take very little effort to load, the Hornady's are by far the hardest to load of the 5 different bullets I've tried in her.

then it must be a great place to muzzy hunt because 150 yards is too far for most.

The bloodlines are a pain to load. I love the bullet it does some serious damage and shoots a good group. I have shot all kinds of different projectiles through my muzzy and I like the bloodlines the best. I take a bit of bore butter and put it around the sabot and they go down smooth every time.

I had the same issue with the bloodlines. I think I shot 2 or 3. They were really hard to load. Like bring a deadblow hammer hard. The 2 or 3 I shot didn't hit that close to each other so I scrapped the idea and went back to my tried and true dead centers.
