I was able to get out this morning for a bit of hunting. It was great to get out and to get a good walk in but it really was disappointing.
THis are is normally a real hot area to hunt with both deer and elk. Even though we can not shoot elk yet we still hanu this area trying to get a handle on their movement through the area, but his mornings goal was a nice buck.
The area seem deserted - not even any evidence of turkeys, which is really strange.
This picture shows the ridge top of the upper lands before it breaks over and falls into the Boulder Creek Canyon. Lot of feed on this top and normally it will be used very well. Today nothing.

If you remember awhile back I posted that a friend of mine had shot a female wolf in this area and with what I found today as I dropped over south side of the ridge probably told the whole story as to why it was a vacant land. As I went over the other side I could hear some crows working on something, so I veered that way to check it out. It was a dead cow - cow elk - looked like a big older cow. The area around the elk was all tore up and she had been pretty well stripped. It really did appear to be a wolf kill - of course I have know proof of that, but the location, the appearance of the site and the fact that a wolf had been taken in the same area - leads me to believe that.
Now I really really wish my hunting partner had shot the second of the two wolves he saw... but there are probably more in the area.
