Idaho Elk hunting Units??
« on: November 06, 2012, 02:18:34 PM »
Hey guys!

I will be a first timer hunting in Idaho this year for both Elk and Deer. I have a few ideas on where to go for Muleys, but not Elk yet. I plan on doing lots of extensive research, but thought I might as well start here. Looking for lots of good sized bulls! (Course who isnt??) Thanks so much in advance!

ya Im thinking for next year. Ya I plan on making lots of phone calls to research this one out, but thought I would throw a hail mary out there to see if you had any input. Pissed off at WA's terrible odds of drawing and looking to expand my horizons a bit.

Most otc units in N Idaho are tuff to find a "good sized bulls" but it can still be done from time to time. Choosing to go with the early archery tag (if its an option in the unit you choose) will help your odds out. Like huntinnw said..as a person whos hunted alot in idaho; I would just start putting in for draw only units.

Who cares about a " good sized " elk, I don't. Any bull is a good elk. People have to get over shooting a monster, good sized elk nowadays.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I def care bout good sized elk.  From your stand point a cow will do the trick. Leave the not so "good sized" elk to live and someday become a good sized elk for us that care to hunt them haha.

Lots of area's for elk out here in Idaho. Just see which unit has the highest success rate and look at maps... That's what we did, our first year hunting elk was this year. Bugled in a 6x7 bull in 1 hour of hunting. Granted we suck and blew it, we had our chances

That sounds like heaven!  We do general rifle tag in Unit 39, for the last 8 years anyway.  Time to make a move for us.  Too many *censored*es in the woods doing stupid stuff.  We have seen a handful of big bulls over the last few years, and took a nice bull 2 years ago.  I just hate looking at elk as someone else shoots them.

So our research has begun as well.  New unit for us.
