Painting a synthetic stock
« on: November 04, 2012, 05:41:49 PM »
I ordered a ramline synthetic stock for my marlin 35 rem. I want to paint it. Anyone have any input or experience doing this? My early research I'm leaning towards brownells aluma Hyde

It is all in the prep.  I usually rough the surface up with 3m pad then use a good cleaner (mineral spirits) a couple times then use a good spray paint.  No issues yet and easy to redo if I want.  Have done probably 6-7 this way.

Don't skimp on the paint either. Krylon just chips right off... maybe I'm hard on my guns though. I run my shotgun pretty hard but it's a pretty simple tool.

Good choice, I've done a couple of rifles with Aluma-hyde II, and if you prep correctly, great results.
