Ravensdale area

I had a sudden change of plans for archery elk next weekand have to hunt a different area than I planned. I have not hunted the Ravensdale area in a long time, Are there any decent areas of public ground still open for archery elk? Feel free to PM me.

Theres always a pile of guts outside the fence at the dump right after the opener. You can park there and walk the fenceline to the back of the dump. They seem to hang in the Baseball field then cross thru the private plots and behind the dump. You may need to be there 5 days early to be first.

They like the watershed too. And why wouldent they.Lol

We usaully hunt the late ML there. And always leave fustrated. So many people moving in the area.

Also, I have 2 friends that live at the base of Sugerloaf. we have scoured that mtn over and over and never seen an Elk on it. We have found lots of sign on the east side though. But keep in mind this is late Nov.

I think Id be gettin in there at night and listening. Dont know if there singing yet but you gotta start somewere.

Go out across from the substation and go back in a few miles.There was a 7x7 killed there about 10 years ago.Dont know how good it is now thou

I have not seen a whole lot out of the substation in recent years.......  There used to be a lot of them out there though!  A lot of the land has been posted as well.

Head toward Kanaskat-Palmer.  Take a left right as you enter Palmer and follow that up.  There are gated roads up there you can hike into.  Have taken a coule elk out of there in the past.

That is all Palmer land and they are not allowing hunting (except the dump but that fence line is private property) not much public land. be carefull to do your own research or you are going to end up with a ticket instead of a cow. Your just asking for trouble with out permission to hunt.

The land on the bottom is palmer, the land up toward the top is or was plum creek and was available for walk-in only.  I hunted Grass mountain for the better part of 20 years off and on.  Then they closed the gates, but you were welcome to walk in.  If it has changed in the last couple of years, I am unaware, but deefinitely would agree that you should check it out.  I was simply giving options of places to look into.

Crap, thats what I was afraid of. I haven't hunted archery elk in the last 6 years or so, We used to  4 wheel up there and used to see monster bulls then I had too many little ones (kids) that took up so much time and $.  I don't know where the hell to hunt now. I really wanted to hunt the westside for branched antler bulls. I used to hunt over by Lake Kachees and did very well but the past few years the area has really grown up and now you can only take a spike  and no cows   Do you guys have any ideas? This was going to be my 15 yr olds first year hunting with a bow.

I live near there and it is frustrating that there is so much awesome land that you can't hunt.  I checked with the PCC folk a year back and they stated they only allow employees and family members on their land now.  We had a calf get hit by a car right on Maple Valley Hwy just south of Rock Creek Elementary a couple of weeks ago.

To answer your question tho, I haven't been seeing many elk lately in Ravensdale.

i see them just about every morning on my way to work driving through hobart... but their on private land, there were 3 monsters out there together the other morning... i also see them driving by the water shed across from the land fill pretty often.
