Next year's quality deer permit

So I'm already looking towards next year's permit applications.  I will have 9 points for quality deer next year and up until now I have planned on putting in for "bald mountain" muzzie late buck.  I love this area, I'm familiar with it, and I have been putting in for it for a few years now.  My mother-in-law got this tag this year and we have been scouting/hunting like crazy and seen one good buck, I"M NOT WASTING MY POINTS ON THIS TAG NEXT YEAR!!!

Now, the biggest buck I've shot was a 20" 3x4 so really I'm not looking for a giant.  I would be willing to shoot a 24" 4x4 150's or so, would prefer bigger but I'm not picky.  I'm looking for a unit close to central wa, that has a couple of weekends because the wife is about to have a baby and I probably won't have much time off next season.

Right now I'm looking at desert for muzzie.  I know, there are a butt ton of threads about desert and so far I'm on the second page of search results.  I was just wondering if anyone else had any good ideas about this or other locations I should be looking at...

Again, it would be muzzie, I need it to be somewhat close to yakima, and it doesn't have to have giant deer.

Any suggestions?

I have 8 points. I try not to think about next years permits more than 10 or 20 times a day...

Quilemene might be worth a look. I have seen several 150+ deer over the years, but I havent spent much time in that unit in the last 4 years.

Teanaway has some good bucks as well if the weather cooperates. I think the Desert unit has the most applicants, so chances of drawing are pretty slim.

If I were you  I would go for the mission tag! Always good deer in there for muzzle! Quilemene wouldn't be a bad choice either!

Think i ran into someone from your party scouting in a jeep,  green if i remember right but don't hold me to that.  I agree with you the unit is in the toilet.   Nothing like it was 6 or 8 years ago.  Mission would be my choice.  We spent a few hours in there on Friday and didn't see any shooters in our usual spots

Mission huh? didn't really think of that one.  I assume mostly public land?  Sage or timber?  What kinda terrain is it?

So I looked into mission a little bit and heres where I do get picky... Mission only has 5 days to hunt and doesn't even include a weekend.  I'm projecting that I won't be able to get much time off next year so this unit won't really work.  I know that the smart thing to do would be to put in for points next year and a good unit on a year that I have time to take off, but with the way draw odds are here I really don't want to do that.

Bag the mission tag and go with the area you know and like

    Especially if you are limitied in your time off.   What, are you going to come on here and say, any info on the mission unit would be appreciated    That always meets with fine results.

A few years ago I would have said the lt murrey but not now, the mucks have really put the hurt on those animals..

I'll be happy with any late permit for good bucks! It's all about the chance and love of the hunt

I would have limited time to hunt but I would have a whole summer's worth of weekends to scout... And I would also be happy with any late permit for good bucks... except for bald mountain, cuz it's been dissappointing.

If you're only going to have a weekend or so to hunt I'd look hard at the points only option.

  The years we plan to go to Wyoming we put in for points only just in case 1 of us get drawn we want to put as much time in here as we can. Maybe 20 years before your drawn again
