savage build

Is it worth it to get the after market barrel nut and barrel lug? I'm getting close to placing my orders and was just wondering about some of the small stuff.

The starter rifle is a 110 long action 7 mag with blind mag. The new barrel is a 6.5-284. I hate the magazine in this gun can i change it?

You will also need a new bolt head or new bolt to accommodate the smaller case rim.

yeah the bolt parts are on the list. The mag is the thing i'm worried about. Can i get rid of it and put a single shot follower in it?

Not sure about the single shot follower.  I do see that parts can be bought for a detachable mag style.

I'd be curious to see your complete parts list for this conversion.

So far i have a savage 110 pre accutrigger long action. A Shilen 26" stainless select match bull barrel. A percision lug and barrel nut. Things i still need are a new bolt head, stock and tooling. I'm keeping the stock trigger for now. For the stock i'm looking at Richard's Microfit but have been reading some bad reviews.

I would recommend staying far, far away from Richard's don't-fit stocks. Waaayy too many negative reviews about them.

Maners makes a pretty nice stock and is available in long action Center feed or Stagger feed options.......Which is your's?

Boyde's also makes a pretty good stock for the money.

I checked boyd's and they only have 4 styles and 3 colors. They nothing for a target or tactical app.

I assume that you're looking at the NSS nut and lug? If you do the lug you may as well do the nut. There's no point in having a nice flat recoil lug and a crooked nut.

I've had pretty good luck getting the 284 case to feed from a modified 308/30-06 magazine. You just need to spend a little time adjusting the feed lips.

Finding a stock for the long actions can be difficult. You may just need to have one made. Stockade, Sharp Shooter Supply, and Manners are all good options. None of them are terribly fast so plan ahead.

If you are wanting a completely customizable synthetic stock..  You might want to look at MPI stocks.  They are fiberglass, and you can do so much with it.  I have taken one designed for a Right handed Weatherby, and converted it to fit a Left Handed Sako...
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
