Coyote Numbers?
« on: November 20, 2012, 09:20:17 PM »
I was thinking about this today....

It appears there are (granted, it's still warm and I could be wrong here) but seems to be a 30% of normal coyote crop.  I keep asking the question why.  Most of the dogs I've killed this fall have been adults with only SWAG killing the pups :chuckle:  But....no question the pheasants took a beating this spring, time after time with every hatch getting followed up by a big rain storm.  I didn't (previously) think that there very much of the coyotes diet would be chicks or game birds but this has me thinking..... :dunno:

I've read some comments on here about some guys who also feel the numbers are down and am just curious.  Most of the dogs I've killed have been a bit pink in the crotch as well.... :dunno:

Thoughts?
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

What do you mean by pink in the crotch? They were females?

I'm feeling the same way. Not only has the weather pretty much screwed me every chance it gets but i he not seen even close to what I consider a normal amount of dogs. Times are rough for me over here. I have never gone thislate into the fall without shooting a dog. It's really pissing me off.

I have to agree, the numbers just do not seem to be there....at least not yet, could be the mild weather, that is what I'm guessing anyway  :dunno:

Last year the numbers where way up but then again, I was out hunting a great deal more, this year I have only made it out 4 or 5 times, I just have way too much stuff going on plus I don't hunt in the rain, did that for way too many years on the westside.

I'm still betting on colder temps being the turning point, to date I have only fired 5 rounds at coyotes, killed three, wounded one, missed one runner at 230 yards and with Thanksgiving this week, I'll have no time to get out.
Checkin' wind and makin' smoke.
That's how I roll...

Yep, I agree either it's the weather or the coyote population in down in Central Wa. I haven't seen any mange (pink crotches) yet and very few YOY, mostly adults.
