Inexpensive shot shells?
« on: November 22, 2012, 08:45:40 PM »
So far the least expensive 2 3/4" #8 target loads I can find are the Federal 100 count boxes at walmart. Anyone know of any less expensive brands/sources?

I was also wondering, could any reloaders who have done the math tel me what the average cost per shell is for reloading target loads?

Find somebody near you who shoots trap. A lot of them go together and buy pallets of shells.

That would be hard. it depends on how much life you get out of your shell. Even if you took the average life span of your shells, it would still be tedious, although it can be done  :dunno:

The federal 100 packs from wally-world is about the cheapest I can find. Last year they had a black-friday sale at $18.00/100
I bought 3000 rounds. I was counting on that again and no go, its not in the sale ad.

the days of saving a ton of money while reloading are over. if you shoot a 12 you might do a little better than break even.

i shoot a lot of shot shells every year, prolly around the 10k mark and yeah wally world "specials" are about the cheapest factory shells i know of.

as far as reloading goes, not factoring the cost of my loader ( i bought it about 10 years ago) my time (i find loading therapeutic) and the cost of hulls ( i have thousands stashed in the garage) last time i used a loading calculator i was under $5 a box

so even though my reloads are marginally less than the wally world specials, i feel that my reloads are much better quality than the wally world shells and im saving more when compared to a comparable shell, like a federal gold medal or remington sts or winchester aa's
