The dreaded Winston
« on: November 28, 2012, 08:12:52 AM »
I have never been in the Winston before and would like to make the most of the one day I have to check it out this year. I usually hunt behind gates solo, typically off a mountain bike with archery equipment. Can anyone that is familiar with that unit who has had some success(near success counts) help me with some access point info anywhere from;general main roads into the different sides of the unit to specific locked gate areas that you need to get way back into.Out of respect,  I will not share the info learned in PM form, if it is requested. If this kind of post annoys you fell free not let me know :chuckle:

Before you get fried and get help because I am sure you will get both.  If you hit the search button and put in Winston you will pull up 15 pages of thread with information.  Some will what you are looking for and some won't but should help you out.  Good luck

It's late season, what locked gate? :chuckle:

You can access the unit from just about anywhere, winston creek, kid valley, ceder creek. Best bet is to get a tree farm map, I know they sell them at the gas station in toutle. You can also call 1-866-636-6531 that is the number to the access hotline.

If you want to make it,
you can't fake it,
you gotta live it.

Ya Russ, I put in Winston for a search before I started this thread, but it didn't turn up as much as I expected. I probably misses something.

No problem.  You have to wade through lots of stuff too to get to something good.  Plus I want to tag because I am also looking into the Winston and Randle areas too.

No locked gates. :sry: Pull off the side of the road and walk into the thick stuff. if you hunt from your truck :bdid: you will pull over every 2 or 3 minutes for other trucks.

Ive accessed winston through Due road which is off of Cedar creek like Funkster said and have gotten into elk off the first gate on the left back about a mile. Although they do move around a bunch but I've seen them there numerous times. Its really hit and miss for the whole unit though more luck than anything I think. Good luck!!
