Maple Burl Plaque Mount
« on: August 21, 2012, 09:38:49 PM »
I made the plaque for for this whitetail. Its Maple burl. I'm thinking about making more to sell. Anyone know what they should sell for?

I think it looks great. The cost of that wood is so spendy that after cost you have to mark it up so much to make a profit unless you sell a huge quantity. If you add an elbow so the skull sits upright, I'd purchase a couple for shop stock at about 20 to 25 dollar a pop if the craftsmanship is good. That wood is so beautiful that sometimes it takes away from the skull.

Thanks for the advice. It is pretty valuable wood so I don't think I could do it for that much. But that helps.  :)

$50-75. Depending on size and quality of wood.

I love Maple burl.. that is a very nice plaque.. would price it at, at least 50.00.  I would probably buy one at least, to store for that special rack...

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Maple burl..one of my favorites to work with...it looks great.
And yeah that wood is so sweet looking it does kind of detracts from the mount.
I have made some of mine out of yellow cedar. hickory, and walnut.
From the pictures you did an outstanding job...I like the live edge on the bottom..very cool!
If you love something you will set it free, if it don't come home, hunt it down and kill it.

I have done three, one on a euro mule deer and two on elk.  I left the natural shape to the burls, but I do like what you did on the cut out and the way the shape turned out.  I bought 10 or so burl's from Randle Woods 10 plus years ago when I worked that area.  As far as a price point for you, it depends on how much you are paying for them, and how much time and materials you are putting into them as well.  Good luck, and a great look.
