You run into this a lot in Hunter Ed. Felons who want to hunt with their modern tag buddies.

One of our party had a retraining order agonist him by his ex girl friend . It included no firearms for two years. He brought his bow and hunted a muzzy elk tag. So he could come to camp.

Look at your deer tag. It will say "archery," "muzzle loader," or "modern firearm." That's the season you get to hunt. During that season, you are allowed to use a lesser weapon if you choose.
