I live on the 448-460 border, and have seen a few elk over the years. It's frustrating that they don't do better back in the Sultan basin area.

Seen a HUGE 6x6 Bull near Sultan, on the 448 side of US2, even posted a picture last month in a different thread titled "Ever have this happaen...?"

Check out the pic, Really makes me wish more would come in the 448! The crappy part about the 448 is that every thing between US2 and Pilchuck is all gated off. All because Dumb A$$ morons destroyed the woods for years and years and years with their ORV's.... there has gott be a ton of game back there after 15 years of closure...

I'm interested in this as well.... I've not found sign where I've looked around Index and north.

:yeah:    I had the Monroe Spring bear tag so I had access to some of that area. I didn't see any elk sign but there are a ton of deer and bear in there. It's really frustrating knowing how much land there is that isn't accessible to us hunters. If you are young and in good shape you can get back in there, but I'm just not up for 15 mile hike ins anymore. Especially if I have to hike back out with an animal on my back!
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

We used to see a lot along the river in Sultan. Now in the last five years I've only seen two. There here in the spring and summer,as soon as fall comes they are nowhere to be found.About ten years ago  my friend shot a 6x6 along the river off of Ben Howard Road.Soon after this the 460 was closed for elk during the early archery season . I've seen two nice bulls in the corn field just outside of Sultan behind the Wayside Chapel. This is in the 448,of course they were there in August.
Right is Right even if no one else is doing it,Wrong is Wrong even if everyone is doing it.

Did you fil the tag? I've always wondered how Spring Bear Tags work... I didn't know/pay attention to the fact that they were for special areas... guess i sjhould have known better...

There has to be a little pocket herd of Elk somewhere in that area... It boggles my mind, but there has to be...

I've seen them within a 1/2 mile of the sky river as others have mentioned.  i have heard stories of sightings farther north in the basin, but i havn't seen any sign of them in any of the places i hunt.
I spend all my time scouting & hunting in a 4 mile radius though also.  It is frustrating that we don't have them in greater #s

We were talking to an indian woman up on Sulfur Creek Rd. a few years ago. She said that there is  a herd around Sulfur Creek Rd. I've never seen any or any sign around there, myself.
