My buddy put in for a group cow hunt in Ryderwood. We tried to hunt early muzzleloader with no luck. Then we hunted late season in Coweeman. I had a good stalk on one herd there, but saw no bulls. Then we had our Ryderwood season extended because of the fire dangers in the early season. It was like a whole different world; Elk Cows all over the place....with a cow tag to match.
After a botched stalk on a small herd, we spotted a herd up ahead off the road and they were somehow oblivious to our presence. We got out and slowly walked closer to within about 50-60 yards (I'm guessing). I kept my line of travel behind a big stump. My buddy could have fired at any time, but he let me take the shot. It was a good shot (with my new knight disk extreme), and she piled up about 50 feet away from where she was shot. The snow made the huge blood trail very easy to follow. Thanks to my buddy Jesse (jbeaumont21) for hooking me up with the cow tag and the cow. You the man!
P.S. He got his cow a few hours later, but that's another story.
