Scanned the site and couldn't find it, but your post brought back kind of a bad memory.

Years ago when I was a young and hunting alone a honker family of 5 landed out pretty much out of range from my ditch.  I still can't believe 747 shell decoys worked back then.  Anyway, I decided to dump all the shells (lead back then) on the huge gander.  He looked HUGE.  All the other geese took off but him afterward.  The 4 remaining geese kept circling him as I was walking up to the standing gander.  He didn't run, even though he could have, but stood his ground hissing at me.  I have never been someone who needed to slews grounded field birds, but am a neck ringer so this completed the bad experience I will never forget.

He weighed 12.5 pounds.

the article mentioned watching snows at the preserve, last thursday, arriving in V formations then splitting off in units of three, to land a mother a father and a child, or words to that effect.
