Scratched Up A Couple
« on: December 31, 2012, 05:22:58 PM »
Elma area. Got a couple nice drakes. Hank attempted his first water retrieve, but when he got there he panicked a little so I had to help him. Only his second swim of his life so I'm happy about that. Not bad for 5 months. Seems to be a few more birds around.

Nice Frost Tops!

Great to see you get your young dog started early.  Good looking dog Hank is, where did you get him?  I also have a Yellow male that's about month younger than Hank.

I got him in Eburg from my sister. I wasn't expecting much this year, but have had him in the blind and in the boat 5 or 6 times. More hunting than killing but good experience for us both. I'm following Game Dog and he's doing great as long as there's no other distractions around. Working on hand signals now as much as I can.

Nice you are off to a good start if your teaching a five month old to cast way and yor are getting him out for some hunting, way to go.  I trained my first dog basically from Water Dog which is pretty much the same book as Game Dog and another book from Bill Tarrant called Hey Pup, Fetch That Up.

Good training regards,
