Savage 7mm mag
« on: September 16, 2008, 12:13:50 AM »
Just wondering how many of you guys might own a savage in 7mm?

I just found what I think a Killer Deal.

Savage model 111 in 7 mm mag. synthetic stock with scope for $315.00.   I ran all over town looking to see if there were any comparable sales with no luck. The closest thing I found was a Savage Stevens in 7mm mag for $560.00 and no scope.   I understand the Stevens model is just a tad bit less of a gun.. but thats just what I was told by the guy at the gun dept.

Soooo.  Needless to say.........  I bought the damn thing ! Along with a couple of boxes of 175gr core lokts.  Now to get out there and put some holes on paper.

I was told that the Savage has a good reputation for out of the box on target guns..... Any input on that from you guys ?

I will take the camera with me and put up pics of out of the box on target lead..  Now all I need is to find a nice bear this year !!!!!!!!

You got a good deal.
Savages can have a little bit of a rough bore to start out with . Some more than others. Most are tack drivers out of the box.Shoot 5-10 rounds and clean , shoot 5-10 rounds and clean . After a couple of boxes of shells they get real good.Triggers are adjustable. Most come pretty heavy.
Anyone that is charging over $350 for a Stevens is gouging. And the Sevens is not a lesser gun than a Savage they just have a different trigger. They come off of the same assembly line out of the same plant.
Another thing about Savage is their guarantee .You have a problem they will fix it.

Thats a great deal and a very accurate rifle. I agree with Slenk on the Stevens, if you look around you will find prices all over, but I have never seen any up the Stevens up around 350. The accu-trigger is a execellent design on a factory rifle, and takes a bit to get used to, buy to be able to adjust your own trigger is so nice. They are pillar bedded from the factory, you can switch barrel within the same bolt face, and as Ive said very accurate out of the box. IMO you got and awesome deal. What kind of scope was included? If it was a package deal, you may want to consider upgrading in the future.  Have fun and good shooting.

Thanks for the information guys !!   Well the Stevens mod was at Hammers in Yak... So if thats tooo much for one, I wouldnt recommend going there if thats what your after.  No bash against them in any way though.  I talked to the gun guy there for a bit and he said GO GET IT ! And I did !!!

The scope is the simmons latest model... 3x9 40.  I know its not all that of a scope but I have an older one on my win 300 wsm and have never had a problem with it.

I have dry fired it just a couple of times and the pull seams very smooth, cant wait to put some rounds through it and see exactly what it does though.

The last I check Wal-Mart in Yakima was selling the Stevens for about $280.
I won't buy anything at Hammers . Ordered some powder from them, had to wait for a month and they still didn't have it in so I told the to just cancel my order. Bought it on line and had it here in 4 days.

See the posts on the 160gr Barnes TSX bullets. You owe it to yourself to test these in your new rifle if you aren't satisfied with your range results with your 175gr ammunition.

Slenk, I checked there and they didnt have a 7mm.  They did have a couple of other rifles, but they were a bit more than that of Bimart.

How do you like them Cat ?

Thanks for the info Oldguy, I will look into it if I have any problems.  I think that Barnes ammo is pretty spensive isnt it ?

I have found that you need to make them pull out their cataloge and order what I want either Wal-Mart or Bi-Mart there is a little gun shop in Selah right beside the new cop station . Little Block building . He's pretty good to deal with . He may have to order for you though as well.
