Ridgerunner-From what I've seen I don't think there's much on the east side you wouldn't recognize  :chuckle:

Bucklucky-I would say being off 9 inches from a picture is pretty darn accurate.  Congrats on your hog of a bull by the way!  I have a buddy with the East tag still hunting.  He's passed up quite a few bulls looking for that monster!  It sounds like he's getting antsy though since it is getting close to the end.

buckmaster-Calling made all of the difference on this hunt.  And paying attention to the wind!  We had two tags and filled them both, doesn't get any better than that!

I don't know how we ended up getting both of these bulls out whole,  :dunno:  but I was very appreciative!  Most of the stuff we hunted was steep and in the bottom of canyons with lots of hiking.  We just were fortunate to find a couple of bulls that were ready to die near roads!  I've got one more good elk tag this year for Eastern Oregon rifle and it is very unlikely I will be lucky enough to kill one within driving distance on that hunt.  That's okay though, I don't mind! :)

Mark, Welcome to the site!  Congratulations on the hunt, I was up at Dick Martin's the other day and he told me about the 330" bull your partner knocked down. I'm glad to see you went back and whacked a dandy. I'll have to stop by and b/s with you about the hunt. Good luck on your Oregon hunt!

Great Story and nice bulls. Without telling the area, what tag did you draw? Also, you should send this story to Eastman, they might print it.

andrew12guage-We only had two permits and filled them with these two bulls.

opportunist-Stop by the store after next week and I should be in.  Any luck yet for you? I went and called for Billy and Trisha yesterday and Trisha killed a dandy bull.  I'll have another post going with that story here shortly.

Thanks everyone!

Mark, I'm not bowhunting for elk until late season, I have an eastside tag and I can't handle hunting spikes and cows and seeing a big bull I can't kill. I've got three elk hunts in eastern Oregon in october and november so I've got all my vacation tied up in that, my wife's, my dad's and my own. I've been taking my son out around the homestead he's got a multi-tag. We've got into a couple of bulls and he missed a cow twice, he shot high then low, it's his first year. He's hooked and he's catching on real quick to calling and setting up for the shots. I'll stop by the shop next week, did you hear about Mayedas arizona bull? Sounds like a stud, 360+ and his fronts are all  busted up. Not bad for an hour and a half into the hunt. You Three Rivers Archery boys are putting a hurting on the bulls!

Ryan-I heard about Chris's bull.  354 with busted tines.  Taxidermist said he figured it would have gone 380 with all of its tines.  Heck of a bull!  Good luck to your son!

Thanks everyone!  I wish I was still over there.  Next week I'm headed over with a buddy who drew an Observatory muzzleloader tag.  Hopefully we can have similar success!
