Yotes 2 Sportfury 0
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:07:42 PM »
Well took my son and his best friend over to Eastern WA to hunt some yotes.  Mainly went over there to get out of the rain, but that didn't happen. Crossed the Columbia and hunted around the Moses Lake area. Before we even made the first set I found out I forgot the camera, my son had forgot his license (so he didn't get to hunt), and it would take me three trips back to the truck get everything.  :bash: The first stand nothing. On the second stand I had two boys hiding in the bush behind me and I hear "pish" of a pop can. I look back to see my son's best friend had cokes in his pack and they having one each under their camoflauged hideout. The giggling started right after the burps and one big fart.  I thought I had two thirteen-year-old school girls instead of boys with me. Made a couple other stands after this and nothing.

On our way back we got to the coke stand and found fresh coyote tracks right over our tracks leading into that stand. A pair had come in our back door from the woodlot I called on the first stand. They had come within fifty feet of the bush the boys were in and then bugged out. I tried coyote pup distress at the end of this stand, so maybe they were coming to that.

Our next set I had something come from in front of me on the first stand and then make some noise over to our left, but we never saw it. When we went over there after the stand we found fresh yote tracks, but found out from that vantage point you could see the truck perfectly. Made two more stands and nothing. I did take care of a big porcupine. There were a lot of guys doing some last minute bird hunting with their dogs in the area and it looks like a great place to run the dogs year round. Figured if I left it, it would be my luck that my dogs would get into it.

Anyways the boys had fun. At least we got out even though the two thirteen-olds had ants in their pants and drinking cokes at the stand. I count having fresh coyote tracks in my boot tracks as a success. Stopped in E-burg on the way home and got some Arby's sandwiches and both boys passed out for the two hour ride home. It was a good day.

Thanks for posting this. I had a friend suggest heading east for a weekend and I told him we needed to do a little planning first, mainly because I'm not very familiar with eastern wa.

Either way it sounds like your trip was more productive than the 10 hours I spent over here on the wet side, saw some fres scat but saw and heard nothing.
